These aren't in any particular order, but they are the ten things I really want to accomplish in my short time on Earth.
1. Publish a book (or two or three).
2. Learn another language (or two or three) besides Japanese.
3. Participate as a volunteer aboard the Peace Boat.
4. Touch ground on six out of seven continents (I won't be super disappointed if I never get around to Antarctica).
5. Partner with my bestie Deidre and create a YouTube channel filled with amazing shows, like the one below.
6. Create a travel web series (basically I want to be Internet's Anthony Bourdain).
7. Get pro at videography.
8. Get pro at photography.
9. Adopt a child when I am ready.
10. Be happy with where I am, when I am, and who I am (95% of the time).
Hi, Kristin
ReplyDeleteMy name is Bruno.
I'm sorry to be writing in your blog, and not in youtube, but there was not enough space there, and there were many things I had to say about both your videos on the topic of feminism.
I've watched both of them, and I must say, I'm impressed. You're an exceptional arguer, knows how to make a point, and does it with such elegance. I wish all people were able to exchange ideas on such controversial issues on an equally high level. In fact, I've watched your first video, standing for feminism, last, and you almost convinced me!
Like you, I recently discovered the videos of Karen Straughan, and she voiced many of my uneasiness with feminism, the concept of patriarchy and the idea of a society that privileges men. And, also, me being a man, my perceived view of the gap between feminist discourse and the reality I lived all my life, not being privileged at all, and sometimes feeling, on the contrary, discriminated.
I am so happy to find out there are people out there that feel the same way as me, that I'm not crazy, and not to be confused with male chauvinists whenever I voice my concerns with feminist discourse and the fact that we, men, are also discriminated. All the more, not only other men, but also women!
Unfortunately, like most social and political issues, we are far behind in such debates here in my country, Brazil. We desperately need access to material such as those being produced by Karen Straughan.
I am also still a long way from done with this subject. I just wished I could approach it in a less heated, more rational and sympathetic environment, so both men and women could get aware of one-another's grievances and how to change this system that I, particularly, for lack of better word, usually call "Gender Labour Division".
I must congratulate you not only for your talent as a speaker, but for your openness to change your mind and courage to speak up loud when you do it. I know how distressful this might be.
If you are, in anyway, interested in exchange further ideas, let me know.
I apologize in advance for any possible mistake or misuse of words, for English is not my first language.
Thank you, Bruno! I'm a long way from done with my exploration of this subject, and in fact of many subjects! I am constantly learning new things and absorbing new information. It's my hope too that one day everyone will be able to discuss the important issues without getting too hateful towards the person on the other end of the argument. I'm glad to see you and so many other people are willing to grapple with the hard questions too. :) Thanks for taking the time to write me, I appreciate hearing from everyone! It's great to get a perspective outside of my own country too :)
